A linux/unix debate type question by romandas 2003-04-17 08:16:44
As many of my previous posts have shown, my knowledge of linux and unix is fairly recently acquired, thus I post and hope some more informed people might educate me about this:

My friend and I were discussing the merits of using Linux vs. Unix on a Sun workstation. I argued that sincer they're basically the same, there shouldn't be much difference in performance at all. However, he responded saying that the version of unix that Sun uses for their workstations is specifically designed to be used on them, therefore it would perform far better, no contest given by the version of Linux (whatever distribution you used).

Which is correct? Please enlighten me/him/us/whichever.
