It was never headed towards any star in particular. Originally, it was planned to be headed past sirius (about 1 lightyear at closest approach), but the Neptune swingby changed that. The closest star it'll see in the next million years or so is Ross 248 (misses by about 1.6 Lightyears)

Next Question: The Voyager II mission was renamed after the Neptune flyby. What is its name now?
