According to the rules in place at the time of the election, there was no basis for the recounts. If you don't like it, make sure the rules get changed, but you cannot change the rules retroactively.

Do you documentation for "thousands" purged from the roles? I had heard there were some, but never thousands. If I recall correctly, they were purged by Democratic party workers too. And don't forget that Gore tried to throw out thousands of absentee ballots from overseas U.S. military troops. Neither side was entirely without fault in that election.

I like Egaeus' rewrite of the Clinton line. It was close to what I thought when I read the original, but he put it better.
