Thinking deep thoughts about the world... by BuggedEyes2006-11-19 12:55:59
A couple of thoughts. by LurkerMo 2003-03-19 09:51:54
There is little doubt about the outcome of the war. The US will defeat Iraq in fairly short order, capturing or killing Saddam.
What happens next? The US will attempt to install a new government in Iraq. Hopefully a democratic one, although their track record in benevolent democratic governments is not a good one.

I have to wonder - from the current regime (which is more along the lines of a feudal system, with personal allegiances counting for more than the stated law of the land), to a truly democratic regime, with every person considered equal under the law. Can the people of Iraq make this conversion? What will it take to change the fundamental way in which 24 million people are governed?
And if the change is not made - what will happen to an Iraqi government presumably established on democratic principles?
