Here's a question for you Latecomers.. by BlurOfSerenity2003-03-18 22:46:46
  I've a few points to make by mr_butts 2003-03-18 23:13:46
As with MOST substances, I don't think there's anything wrong with alcohol in MODERATION... In fact, it has been proven in some scientific studies that one or two glasses of red wine can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke (can't remember why?)

However, too much or too frequent consumption has naught but negative physical, mental and social health effects (liver problems, depression, and domestic violence to name a few) and is therefore a bad thing.

As for your reference to religious fundamentalism, the bible DOES NOT preach against responsible consumption, but only warns against consuming IN EXCESS, which I see as common sense in view of the abovementioned negative effects of such.

when all is said and done, I think that alcohol and drunkenness come down to your reasons.... Alcohol is a mood enhancer and should therefore not be consumed if depressed, but I have nothing against occasional tipsy states in the name of a good night out with friends.
