What do you think of alcohol?
I saw Henry Rollins do a spoken word show tonight (and I met him afterwards and got him to sign a book! woo! :-D)and during one part of it, he was talking about the main enemies of the human race being ignorance, apathy and mediocrity... And he said that he doesn't drink because he sees any kind of substance like alcohol, marijuiana, other drugs, etc. as 'poison' that not only harms us physically, but helps keep us all complacent in our mediocrity. Now, I'm no stranger to beer, but I have to admit that he's got a point. I've got nothing but respect for someone who can take that sort stance for rational reasons (as opposed to someone who just abstains from things beceause of, say, religion fundamentalism) and stick with it. And he made me start thinking about my own views on such things.
So what do you all think? Is life too short to waste getting smashed, or does is the occasional bit of inebriation not neccessarily a bad thing? |
