"When seeing a man stick his tongue down a woman's throat, nobody tells him to burn in hell, nor calls him a <expletive>."
No.. but generally they'll heckle ("get a room!") or make lewd comments, or do their best to ignore it uncomfortably. And you seem to be reading a lot into the "PDA" term...in most of the social circles I've been in, even a light peck can be considered "PDA". Usually, deep kissing is considered far past PDA.
I think the point was not that the behaviour was acceptable.. it was that the behaviour could have been a combination of "normal" reactions combined with homophobia.
I don't think the comment was meant to defend the actions, just point out that there could be more involved than just homophobic reactions. After all, you can't expect onlookers to be less embarrased or rude than they would be towards a straight couple. The problem is the degree these people went beyond that. (If I'm wrong about the point of the comment, I hope the original author will correct me.. but this is what *I* got out of the comment)
And I hope I don't get called a bigot for seeing things from that perspective. I'm sure the homosexual friends I've had would disagree... |
