yes, it has locate, and it's much quicker than find for some reason. But no updatedb... **shrug**

Concerning the config file, there seems to be no way I can edit the darn thing from any application that runs in the Finder, not even when I'm running the Finder as root. Crap, wish I knew how to use vi. Oh well. Another time I guess. Meanwhile, I can do the website testing on my Mandrake box where the configuration files aren't hidden from even the superuser. Or well, I guess I could test it on my workstation and leave it running on port 80.
