So you're from the UK, right? How do other UKer's spell the word meaning "a piece of paper that causes money to move around"? In the US we use the word "check". As such, we feel that everyone else should use "check" because we do.
There's a huge battle raging in New York state over "soda" or "pop" when talking about carbonated beverages. If you're from New York City (and the surrounding areas) you most likely say "soda". If you're from the rest of the state, you most likely call it "pop". When you go to college, you end up in a soda/pop warzone that never ends, because everyone is trying to get everyone else to call carbonated beverages what they call carbonated beverages. By the end, I just ordered water.
Anyway, same thing applies here. Use it as you always have, and let us pompous Americans tell you you're wrong, then laugh at us behind our backs. ;) |
