in international law, weakening an already ineffective UN.

This sets international politics back to before WWI, where a country is only as strong as its alliances. So we will likely get the same result - a country will see an opportunity and fabricate an excuse for an attack. The UN will not have the power to block or punish such attacks. Eventually, only the US will have the military might to be effective, making the US president effectively a World Dictator.

This can be seen as beneficial to the US, and I'm sure Slayer will agree that it is in the best interests of the US to create such a situation. However, I don't think world peace is advanced by setting the clock back like this.

Slayer - is my logic flawed, or do you still see what Bush is doing as advancing peace in any way? US interests yes, peace no.
