The US, France, and Russia could do anything they want to any country without fear of reprisal from the UN. Since the US, France, and Russia have veto power in the Security Council, the UN could not pass a resolution to stop them.

One country can stop the UN from taking action. Does that seem right? The UN is a week organization riddled with bureaucracy and politics. Sometimes, when given enough time it does do some good. Most of the time it is just a place where hot air gathers.

Whether it is right or wrong to attack Iraq, that is not why most countries have chosen their sides. It is about politics and money. France, Russia, and Germany have strong economic ties with Iraq. The US wants a government in Iraq more friendly to them (giving them a better economic position). Other countries side with who they want to see them as allies. There is too much at stake economically to think about what is right or wrong, and who will get hurt.
