It is a matter of respect for the law by jedidiahstott 2003-03-18 03:33:00
International law is that no state will wage war except in self defense against attack, or with the mandate of the UN. The US is thus in violation of international law. The fact that Iraq is a (blankety blank) is completely irrelevant. If the UN said that Iraq was out of line and asked the US (or whoever) to go in and sort out Mr Hussein, we would all cheer from the side lines(Analogy: I believe that my next door neighbours are manufacturing drugs. That does not entitle me to go over with a shotgun and blow them away.In civilised states, I call the police, and abide by their action). If the time is up on Iraq , it's up to the UN to make that call. Most (all?) of the smaller nations of the world are now thinking "If the US openly despises international law , what happens if we find ourselves in disagreement with the US. Presumably , we get a US attack force descend on us ?" .And bear in mind that I come from a country that is one of the most democratic in the world and the *only* country to officially outlaw all WMD - including those of the USA which brought a lot of US antagonism down on us - reflected in trade embargoes etc - when we told them their nuclear armed and fuelled ships were not welcome . Now I wonder if it would bring bombers down on us.
