I've been afraid of somthing like this ever since the USSR collapsed. USA is the *only* Super Power left. No, China ain't up there either. This means that USA is all powerful, militarily. It was only a matter of time when Uncle Sugar realised that he could do almost anything he wants and there is no one that can even consider retraining him, including the entire UN. That's just plain old absolute power.

The first step, US no longer feels it needs to restrain it self and limit its aggresion to defensive response only. This is a very slippery slope. After unilateral pre-emptive aggression follows unilateral policy-based aggression. It's not so far from there to British style imperialism. Iraq will become a US protectorate, along with Afghanistan and Japan. Next on the list is North Korea, if they're not careful (although, they won't be so easy).
This could easily become the early phase of a domino chain-reaction.
BTW, I expect that this war won't last more than a few weeks (I hope). |
