| The flaw in the "wait for UN approval" argument. |

I've seen alot of people say that the US can't go to war without UN approval. The truth is that the UN will never, ever declare Iraq in violation. Would you argue that a man is innocent of murder because the law requires his brother to be on the jury and that brother refuses to vote guilty? The same situation is currently true with France serving as the brother.
Even after the UN weapon inspectors found illegal stockpiles in '94, France not only refused to declare a material breech, but actually tried to get the sanctions lifted. After Saddam refused to allow inspectors back in, France again pushed to end sanctions. France even opposed the formation of UNMOVIC (the current inspection regime) in '99. France has proven time and time again that they will not hold Iraq accountable, even when the "smoking gun" was discovered in '94. As for being peaceloving humanitarians, France blocked a resolution condemning attacks on Kurds in '96.
So why should we depend on a jury which is hamstringed by a single unchanging vote? That is no jury and their decision holds no justice. |
