"prequel" to LOTR, but it is written less seriously, and reads easily. If my evil plan works, you won't realize you're addicted until 1/2-way thru The Silmarillion! Do NOT try reading The Silmaillion first! It is chronologically first, but it reads like a history book. It gives cool background once you finish LOTR.
