one can only discriminate 'against'. Affirmative action laws serve to prove that discrimination is not happening by ensuring that the percentage of hirees/appointees/whatever matches the percentage of that minority in society as a whole. If one race/gender/sexual preference/shoe size is present in the employed pool to a greater percentage than in society as a whole, then discrimination has occurred. Whites that protest affirmative action are basically saying that they think it's okay if they get most of the jobs. Cloak it as 'discrimination' all you want, it ain't so.
