You ever use pecs? by Arienadean 2003-03-07 20:04:49
it's what I used with my son and I think most autistics can communicate via pecs.(Picture Exchange Communication System)

Btw even if they don't verbally say something back you'd be suprised at what they may take in. I've known some autistic adults that were non verbal children and who communicate through computers. One spoke then decided to quit speaking(selective mutism) and she uses an alphatalk to speak. When I'm having langauge problems sometimes I can understand but can't get out what I want to say.(word finding problems and stuff) So sometimes I understand more than I appear to because I'm simply unable to verbally respond at times.

{{{{Reddy}}}} I do know what it's like hoping for your child to say something... anything with meaning especially "I love you" and I did cry when my son finally said it and seemed to know what he was saying. He was doing PECS, sign language, then finally verbal and I had to take 2 Hanen parental speach courses to help him.(now he speaks too much lol)
