you realize to an autistic kid being sent to a quiet spot isn't really punishment in a sense. We kinda like it frankly lol it's more punishment to require us to engage in a social activity or interfeer with something we have a perseverence/facination on. Your son sounds like he was persevering with the tv. He was probably spacing out doing it and if it was a staticy channel or something he found intresting he was probably in his own little world. I know I used to do that on occasion but what was worse is it was pre remotes so push/pull the button off on off on... with my son it was light switches and his perseverence was so severe the light became haunted(when not touched it would turn it's self off and on)

I'd not keep him there that long. Tho we aren't the greatest at tones of voice... loud and blatant upset/mad looks do startle us and we get the point. I suggest next time making him do a task he dislikes or removing one he does like. But hard to say if we really learn from being sent to quiet spots.(I say that from comments from fellow autistics I've talked to over time) Sending us to a quiet spot is like hmm sending a geek to a computer. :P
