| On the other hand you have yet to give me a real reason the US should not go to War.
I wasn't offering one. The subtext of all of your questions is "Why is there so much resistance to the US going to war?" not "Why should the US not go to war?"
I answered the subtext, which I think ultimately matters more than the overt questions. It puts everything into a clearer perspective.
But so far all you can say is that the US is not popular and that we are mean and therefor simply cannot be supported.
Back up. Nowhere did I say the U.S. was "being mean."
You cannot say and be genuine and honest that the US never has helped another country, that we never come to the aid of those that are oppressed and have problems.
Why can I not say this? Because you don't like it? Do you really believe that the U.S., or any other nation for that matter, spends millions or billions of their citizens tax dollars on efforts that have neither long- nor short-term effects on furthering national interests? If so, you are indeed being ingenuous.
YOU CAN say that we have made past mistakes, and you can say that selfish reasons are behind SOME of our motivation to go to war with Iraq.
I have yet to make a direct comment about the war with Iraq. Once again, you're reading far more into what I write than actually exists. |
