I actually agree with you mostly; people should be 100% accountable for their actions. If those actions lead to diminished participation in govt, so be it. I was only repeating the line I've heard ad nauseum from liberal friends who assure me that we should 'show compassion' for minorities by not holding them accountable for their actions.
The irony is that your (and my) viewpoint is the non-racist one; If one claims that minorities shouldn't be held to the same standard as the rest of society, for whatever reason, one effectively says that minorities are less capable than whites - a racist statement.
I don't agree that you're being discriminated against, though. (I'm a white male, FWIW). That statement doesn't really hold water given the fact of continuing economic and political dominance by our 'subset of humanity'. I *really* don't want to debate the subject, but that's my viewpoint and I had to distance myself from your opinion, if only for my own conscience's sake. |
