But you're right - in the beginning, the outside is the major part of that all-important first impression. In professional and in personal relationships, what you look like matters. Plain and simple.
A woman with a small chest is, instinctively, seen as being less feminine than one that has more curves that Lombard Street. The same way, a man who's losing his hair is seen as less virile. Overweight people are seen as lazy. None of this may be true, but when you first meet a person (or when a person first meets you), that doesn't matter.
Personally, I don't have a problem with someone getting surgery to correct something they perceive as being wrong with themselves. It's no different in my mind than getting a tattoo or a body piercing - it's something permanent done to your body to enhance its appearance.
I do have a problem with someone who gets surgery to correct something another person perceives as being wrong with them. More than a handful of us know a woman who got her boobs done to make her husband happy or a guy who had liposuction so his wife would quit nagging him about his gut. When a person goes there, then they've definitely crossed a line. |
