But there are issues with this, too by Dazed 2003-03-07 09:31:21
For instance, yes the US gives "billions" of dollars to other countries BUT they take far more than that out by unfair trade deals. A tiny amount of aid compared to loads of cheap resources and control of a government does not seem right or at least "charitable."

The US has internal problems. Last I heard PLAN International/Foster Parents Plan International/Called something else in the US was thinking about making the US the first Donor/Receiver country. That tells the US soemthing about how they treat their own country. More importantly, it shows how international people do support the US in the most seemingly unneccesary way possible for a country with such wealth. Plus there's all the stuff that the world (or at least Canada) did after WTC. CoverAll Shelters is one company I know helped out.

So, maybe things will work out for the US. Maybe they won't. And I think things like this need to be posted just as much as Rick Mercer's rant. However, both need to be taken with a good grain of salt and that is inherent in Mercer's rant because he is a comedian. For a non-comedian (in this case, a politician) to say something so one-sided is less acceptable, I think.
