There's this new computer store down the street from me, the first of its sort these parts. They've got good prices on things, a couple of smart guys running the place, and great computers that you can rent time on for internet, gaming, or office applications. Many other services coming.
But anyway, for a few weeks I've been spending much of my time there, just helping them set up and stuff. Now, Scott, the owner, is going to let me play with one of the Sun servers in the server room... *drool* They have two Sparc Enterprise 3000s and one UltraSparc Enterprise 4500, which has 3 Sun mass storage arrays hooked up to it (filled with 9.5 gb 15k rpm SCSI drives, connected via fibre channel). I can't think about it without getting all excited, this is the strongest computer I've ever seen in person, and they're gonna give me root on it!
Now, bearing in mind that it runs Solaris, what should I do on it? I'm pretty familiar with Linux, if anyone would care to point out some fun things to do on some heavy duty equipment, feel free. I'll be checking back later today from there. I get free computer time because I help out :)
Oh, in case anyone in the area is interested, it's called The Computer Room, in Sarasota, FL. Website placeholder (their web designer is one of those FrontPage goons and he's taking forever) Hours are 8am to 10pm, seven days a week. I'll probably be there if you come in the evening.
Weeeee, I'm gonna go take a shower and head over there now to get my root password *very big perma-grin* |
