Canadian CD Levy by lord_dolphin2003-02-27 12:37:49
Well I'd like to know.... by tonza2003-02-27 14:10:45
not the music companies by lord_dolphin 2003-02-27 15:21:03
though it is people acting on their behalf supposedly. Though even the music companies are not seeing their money from what I've heard (could be wrong). It is a privately collected levy, with government backing. the reason it passed, was because nobody knew to object, it was done VERY quietly! also, they had VERY strict rules on how a "formal" objection could be made. so the people who *DID* object were turned away for not following the "correct procedures" which REALLY angered a lot of people... but stil not enough. Now London Drugs is standing against the levy (in words NOT actions) as well as some other major companies (again only in words), and only a few smaller companies are outright defying the levy. It is very dangerous, even though the levy itself is against our constitution, in that it assumes EVERYONE is guilty of piracy before even being questioned!
