There are tons of other ways of doing things, just that most of the others require people to be fairly idealistic. If everybody was honest and nice, communism would be the way to go hands down. But they aren't so all you end up with is a fancy name for totalitarian states. Sweden is one of the most successful socialist countries. Its small population helps a lot. Health care, public utilities, and who knows what else are all government run. You can argue that socialism is a limited form of capitolism, I am just a purist when it comes to definitions.
