Does that fact that God (all knowing, all seeing, all powerful) knows something will happen mean that the people didn't choose their actions that lead them to that something?
There is a difference between you (a human) "knowing" Pres. Bush will attack Iraq, and God (all knowing being) Knowing. For example say God knows that next year I will fall down the steps in my house and break my leg. Since He is all knowing, He is 100% sure this will happen, no question. So if I then use free will to not ever use those steps again, God was wrong. This is a contradiction. So my only path is to go through the actions that God has already determined, hence no free will.
The other side is that, yes, He knows what's going to happen, but that's only because He knows the choices you make. It doesn't mean that you didn't make the choices yourself, it just means that He can fastforward to the end of the film to find out what happened.
People have been debating this point for centuries. |
