Imagine a man, a shrewd, successful man with great holdings and businesses. He wants to pass on to his children the things he has and the work he does, but he knows that his work will be wasted unless his children develop the abilities necessary to be as shrewd and successful as he is. He loves all his children and all his children desire to be included in his inheritance. He desires to be fair, but he knows that some of them are more capable of handling his affairs better than others. If he simply gives his inheritance away to those he knows will be the most successful, the rest will complain that they did not get a fair chance, so he devises for them a training school and a test. Each of his children will attend the school and have the opportunity to gain the necessary information and take the test. He knows ahead of time the probable outcome of the training and test based upon the natures of his children, but, the children can no longer complain that he was unfair and didn't give them a fair opportunity to receive a portion of the inheritance...
This isn't a perfect analogy but perhaps in it you can find a pearl to keep for yourself, or perhaps not |
