I think His rules are plain enough by slacktime 2003-02-27 08:57:53
and actually quite easy to understand. Even the mosaic code was summed up in the two commandments "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God, with all thy heart, might, mind and strength" and "Love thy neighbor as thyself". Christs teachings didn't detract from those basic rules but simply helped create guidelines to live by. The Beatitudes provide a simple recipe for self-improvement.

And what's more, these same rules for living are found in most religions, Christian or not. That we all fall short of the person we could be is our own greatest guilt trip, and
<Gospel according to St. Slacktime> I believe that we will find that God will judge us by how hard we tried to improve ourselves rather than by some arbitrary measure of where we are. In other words, an A for effort is more acceptable to God than the letter grade we think we've achieved.</Gospel>
