that here in the UK many hospitals have an "unofficial" policy to NOT inform an Asian mother of the sex of their child when they are scanned. To the extent that they will lie and say it is a boy if the expectant mother (or usually the father) insists on knowing. This is to stop terminations based on the child being a girl.
