set aside all religious and cultural taboos on poligamy for a moment.
It makes sense!
Setting modern US, only real change is poligamy is perfectly acceptable except to the usual squeeky wheels.
I have three wives and a normal sized 5 bedroom house (remember, architecture will reflect the normal family, 1 bedroom for each wife, plus two large bedrooms, one for boys and one for girls with bunk beds, maybe a small closet/study for the mans clothes and a place of how own - no bed).
The most recent mother stays home with the young kids and takes the older ones to and from school and is responsible for much of the house work. The other two wives go to work, and of course I still have a job.
As usual, everyone pitches in around the house, especially on weekends. With that many adults around taking care of a new mother and baby would be much eaiser.
Domestic issues would probably be LESS. Could you imagine if all THREE of my wives found out I was cheating on them? What if I was a drunk. Do you think I would dare raise a hand to one of them when I know the other two are behind me with frying pans? The kids would have siblings their own ages to play with, the kids would be a community unto themselves.
When all the kids are old enough to go to regular school all four adults could go back to work. Four adults working would make it eaiser to pay for college and long as only two or three kids were in school at a time. Some would probably join the military or work right out of school making that easier. Teenaged cars would probably be hand-me downs to some degree and easier to obtain anyways. Parking would be a problem and the family vehicle would probably have to be at least a "Church bus", a Suburban not being big enough.
It would present it's own problems but in the end probably be easier. |
