that Saddam Hussein is a Bad Person. He has used nerve gas against his own people, and he has tried to develop nuclear weapons.
However, that does not mean that Curious George is allowed to do whatever he wants. The Bush administration has been working against the UN weapons inspectors and a peceful solution all the way. Instead of providing assistance they wanted to show their own "evidence" ("This is a building somewhere in Iraq. We know it contains Weapons of Mass Destructions. We just know.") that Saddam was in violation of the treaty and that the only way to stop him from destroying the whole world is to bomb bomb bomb Iraq.
Yes, we need to pressure Saddam into cooperating with the inspections, and if he continues not to the UN should authorize a strike. But the US should not be given a carte blanche to strike at Iraq on their own, and I think it would be a Bad Idea for the US to go against the UN. I think that might very well put all of us on a slippery slope towards World War III. |
