e (darned subject line length). Who in their right mind would possibly make the decision to become dependent on alcohol? Do smokers choose to become nicotine addicts? Sure the initial intake is a choice, but the chemical dependency isn't.
I don't disagree that it is possible for people to find themselves switching sides, I would suggest though that not one of these people did so by an act of their own will. Sexual preference is a low-level function and I believe that you have as much control over it as you do over your eyelids while sneezing. If not, why can't I change my preference to houseplants instead?
Right and wrong is a separate issue and should not be confused with the issue of choice or nature. Whether your own personal morality comes from a law book, a religious scripture, or from societal norms, the issue of Right and Wrong is a purely subjective thing. What is considered Right now, may have been considered Wrong in the past or vice-versa. 150 years ago it was considered Right to send small children up chimneys or down mines. 500 years ago it was considered Wrong to say that the Earth was not the centre of the universe.
I'm not trying to make you change your beliefs here, I'm just trying to get you to question them. If after serious and honest consideration you still come to the same conclusions, then your beliefs will be all the stronger for it.
