          I'm gonna stay (mostly) out of this :-) by Buffy_Fett 2003-02-22 11:18:03
My last point was basically saying that a lot of people (to me, at least) seem like they are "being gay" as a way of rebelling or something, like Kickstart said - selfish stupid reasons (note: not all, but definitely some). He had limited it to bisexuals, and I was extending it to "pure" homosexuals.

As to the original post (the common use of the term "gay"), I haven't really looked into it, I'm not as concerned with word entymology (sp?) as some of you weirdos are ;-). I know a lot of people use it as an insult. I've done it before as well. I've seen it written before as "ghey" meaning stupid and supposedly having nothing to do with sexual preference, but that would easily be seen as a poor rationalization so I won't attempt to use it to justify my actions. I do my best to avoid using "gay" as an insult, but I'm not perfect.

I've stated my views on homosexuality before, I will restate them once here and be done with it, I really don't feel like getting into a long debate over something like this today :-)

First off, I don't know of any conclusive scientific studies, so I don't accept and either way. How I feel about it is that it is a choice that I like to equate with something like alchoholism or gluttony. There are most defintely people who are genetically predisposed towards it, but that does not abdicate personal responsibility. Just because I'm predisposed towards gaining weight doesn't mean I can eat to my hearts content and become a 900 pound beast.

And I say again, I won't debate my viewpoint today. You did have some very good counterpoints to Adiplomat's original post. The only thing I had issue with was Kickstart doing in his post what he condemned Dippy for doing in his. :-)
