YES, there is an answer...
Nonvolent CONFRONTATION can, and does, change the world.
See: Gandhi, Mohandas K. (AKA The Mahatma) or King Jr., Martin Luther (AKA King Jr., Martin Luther)
Question: who is braver?
The person who marches into battle armed and willing to kill in order to "change the world" by looking at it through a gunsight...who's goal is to help the "other dumb bastard" die for his cause (paraphrasing G. Patton)
or the person who marches into battle armed only with their courage, a moral center, and a desire to change the world by living their convictions, even if it means making the ultimate sacrifice?
As I have gotten older, I see more and more the futility of war and violence. I'm not a very religious person, but both of my guiding doctrines (Buddist and Christain) teach that there is no greater sin than to take the life of another (I said christian, so please don't throw any of that Old Testament "eye for an eye" crap back at me or (I'll kick your ass ;-).
I really believe that in the long run, violence solves nothing....however, this the lady is still a dork. |
