  1. Didn't know it was a valid tag - never seen it. I'd guess it's a "word break", though.
  2. Same answer. Guessing: no idea.
  3. Guessing: src, id, height, width, alt, border, align, class, (wracking my brains for attributes, here) valign, and piffle (that's it, brain is wracked).
  4. No, it is a markup language. It is strictly meant for marking the structure of a document, not the look and not "timing" or any other things that require programming.
  5. You should have said "example of a(n)", because it is an entity. Shame on you for misleading.
  6. SGML - It's at least from the late 70's, and I used it before I ever heard of HTML.
