It's far more likely to just spread out.

Of course, it's STILL nasty radioactive matter, and it can still seep into water sources.

In theory, it should be able to be contained in the event of a meltdown, however it's possible for other reactions to occour which can fracture/rupture the reactor vessel and/or containment buildings.
