A used one was more expensive than a new CRV and the CRV came with more standard features. As a side note the CRV's 4 cylinder engine is rated at 160hp. My 1987 Monte's old 305 V8 was rated at 180hp. (Though the current engine makes about three times that now.) The Torque curve for the CRV was also very flat and well within the range of normal driving RPMs. IIRC the HP and Torque curve were almost identical which is highly desireable for performance.
