There's a difference to the tones you get depending on whether it's a call or an SMS.

We get the tones over our theatre cans - which gives us a great excuse to yell at cast for leaving their phones on, as we can say
"Somebody left their phone on, and just got called/received a text! WHO WAS IT!!!?"
"And would they please turn it off. Thanks."

An SMS sounds like "Bip-bada-bip-bada-bip-bada-bip" (Or similar)
A call sounds like "Bip-bada-bip-bada-bip-bada-bip-BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP"

There is a third noise for a cellphone checking in with the cell, but I forget it. It's similar to the SMS tones, but isn't as long IIRC.
