and our Aus version of BurgerKing - Hungry Jacks - is more expensive, but still cheap enough. Pizzas are still good value, especially with discount vouchers which are common. KFC and Chicken Treat are also viable price-wise, and our Aus version - Red Rooster (a lot better imho) is similar in price, but without the fat. :)
There is a move away from fast food (in terms of established versions) - after all, sandwich places and such now offer fast service so the speeed is not an issue any more. Japanese and other asian foods are popular, and most do take-away service, usually at a reasonable price. Small serves of sushi are about the same price as a Hungry Jacks whopper - other asian takeaways start at the same price as a HJ combo - and are still possible at the upper level.
Social programs are similar to Canada - our tax levels are different, but it is difficult to compare, because the cost of living varies so much. Food is generally cheaper than UK when compared to cost-of-living, but I think our clothes cost more, as do cars. |
