but then what if I apply the same logic to all the other holidays by a generalization ?
Do we really need any holidays ?
Suppose, we get rid of all the holidays, any and all there can be, by any and all denominations. What will happen ?
I'm sure some people will not be happy about that... hmm.
But 'strong', 'pure' people, who don't need to depend on holidays will be just fine ! (hehehehehe, I'm kidding here).
The people who will be unhappy about the holidays could be of several different types:
* store owners (the holiday store ones)
* those who just celebrated the holidays forever, and it is hard to let go, since people tend to get used to things, and then it's hard to drop them.
And why do people start celebrating these holidays ? There are several reasons:
* parent knowledge. Do as the good parent says.
* A cute advertisement that suggest that this or that holiday tradition was here for ages, so you might as well do what the good cute advertisement says and go get somebody a gift.
* those people who want gifts from other people and the only way to persuade other people to get gifts seems to persuade the whole society to celebrate this or that holiday.
Why do people need/want gifts ? There could be several reasons:
* they are insecure in themselves, and when somebody gives them a gift, they feel more appreciated and wholesome, and therefore fulfilled.
* there could be a gene in homo sapiens that tells people to celebrate and give gifts to each other. Hmm.. actually, I think this is a bit too far-fetched. Perhaps, this could be explained better, like i.e. the previous bullet point.
So, there you have it for now ... |
