I hate Windoze for it's simplicity. It takes away the knowledge of what you're doing during the process. It just says:
"With this wizard you can install $protocol. This will allow you to access other computers on your network. We reccommend that you turn off all other programs while installing $protocol, as they may cause windoze to crash (sure, it's other programs doing it. If you say) during installation."
Then you wait for a bit and:
"$protocol has been installed successfully. Do you wish do restart your computer now?"
Then you go into an outshoot of a program and start up another wizard to configure whatever you just installed, and you're ready to go. So what did you just do? You clicked next a bunch of times and clicked finish twice. You also rebooted once. It never told you how or why you're doing it, aside from "You cannot access the internet without TCP/IP" or your network admin says "install IPX/SPX to utilize the network shares."
IMO, it takes some of the fun of computers away. Where's all the neat stuff? Where's the command line (NT needs to be more command-based and needs to support 640k based software more)? I want a good learning experience, not wizards. |
