...I don't like limitations of any kind. Remember that once it was said that computers in the future probably won't weight less than 2.5 tons (or something like it)? By standards then, the original IP limitation should be more than enough for several Earths, now a cell phone can have its own IP number. Who says we won't reduce it again to level of individual cell-like devices or even nanotechnology. OK, forget what I just said/wrote. I'm getting a bit sleepy...

But still, couldn't they think of some flexible numbering that extends as needed?
