at one time the UK's prices were 4x BC's by Arienadean 2003-02-13 07:50:29
and not to mention beyond petrol/gas... our natural gas is also far cheaper... Looking at my bill before me this is the rates we pay here in BC, Canada:

Hydro Electric (Basic Charge) $6.9s
Hydro Electric (Regional Transit Levy) $3.80
Hydro Electric $0.0577/kW.h

Hydro bill = basic charge + transit levy + (kw.h charge x kw.h)

Natural Gas (basic charge) $10
Natural Gas (Delivery charge) $2.591/GJ
Natural Gas (commodity charge) $6.631/GJ

Natrual Gas Bill = basic charge + (delivery charge x GJ used) + (commodity charge x GJ used)

Now to put it in perspective I pay $81/mo cdn for hydro electric and $131/mo for Gas. That is for a 4 bedroom upstairs and 1 bedroom basement suite house. Now some diffrences with north america vs europe... our hot water tanks are on all the time... our stoves tend to be electric(though there is a gas one downstairs our part of the house has electric) as do our washers and dryers.
