Dumb users, dumber techs by Route 2003-02-09 11:58:21
I use vi to edit my web pages, instead of the standard web interface CPanel thing provided by my web host. Yesterday, I kept getting "permission denied" messages when I tried to use vi. I wrote to ask why. Here is what CPHosting said:

"Hello, [name deleted]. We have found many users close the ssh session without closing vim editor which overloads the server, hence the vim editor will never be available on CPHosting.com servers. We thank you for understanding.

If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me again. Thank you for choosing CPHosting.com.

Sincerely,
[name deleted]
CPHosting.com Team"

Oh, thanks! They could have sent out a warning message to people who exited wrong; they could have put up a warning message that you see when you ssh into the server; they could have only disabled the culprits' access to vi; they could have done a lot of things. But no, they decided to cripple everybody's account just because some people weren't exiting properly. Time to find another web host AGAIN.

My boyfriend wants to be nice and helpful and figure out a solution for them, tell them how to do it. I think he's being silly.
