But if you position the cursor at the start of the first line you want to cut, issue the command

ndd

Where n is the number of lines you want to cut. "dd" means delete a line.

Then move the cursor to the line before the one you want to paste the stuff into, and press p. The p command pastes whatever you last deleted, which in this case was the n lines of text.
