  1. Xine for DVDs (and install libdvdcss) -- or Ogle. (More info)
  2. You can use ncftp if you want to deal with a command-line program or there should be a KDE program available for an FTP client (though I do know of a GTK+/GNOME client called GFTP).

  4. What kind of video card do you have? Nvidia or ATI Radeon 8500 or better?
