different senses of humour by ladouleurdouce 2003-02-09 00:05:17
Ok, I was watching a episode of Fawlty Towers with my girlfriend earlier tonight, and I'll admit it was pretty darn funny... But there were parts of it where I just felt embarrased for the main character rather than being able to really laugh at him. My girlfriend was laughing uproariously, I was cringing and averting my eyes. It made me think about different sorts of comedy, and how different people find different things funny. I guess I'm not as into the 'tragedy' sort of comedy. Mind you, when John Cleese really loses it, it IS still funny even if you do feel embarrassed for his character. Anyone else find certain kinds of comedy uncomfortable like that?
