decompiling a few DLLs so that they ARE actual messages? I remember doing something similar to Command.com once (just using a global search and replace.) Funnily enough, even overwriting strings with different strings of the same length would screw it up - it worked fine, but if you ran another shell, or full screen program (like EDIT.COM) on returning to your original command shell, it would crash. Funny that.
