This may be a reaction to a recent study published by some people at MIT. They did a preliminary investigation study, buying surplus used hard drives and then determining what could be found. The results are frightening. In one case, the drive was apparently from an ATM machine, and had thousands of credit card numbers and information on it. I think they also mentioned finding drives with medical information. I don't have the time right now to fine the link, I'm late going some where as it is, but I'll try to locate it later.
