Home Network help need by Control 2003-02-06 13:35:57
Configuration: One Desktop box, running Win2k. One Notebook running XP prof. One Cable modem, with a ISP deal that provides 4 non-static IP's. Cable runs from modem into a hub, from there to the two Comps. Net access work perfectly from both boxes.

Now how do I get the two boxes to talk to each other? Both are in the same workgroup ('GROUP'), Notebook is named ('Laptop'), Desktop named ('PC').

When connection is attempted from 'PC', 'Laptop' shows up in the list of computers. On clicking it, however, I get something along the lines of '\\Laptop can't be accessed, Network path not found' (translated from german error message).

When connection is attempted from 'Laptop', i get something like 'List of Servers in this group is not available'. I can't even list the boxes.

I tried the home network setup tool on the XP box, and also created the setup disk to run on other computers, but when I try and run it in win2k, it claims to only work for 9x, ME and XP.

I need help
